it shows that how important it is for children to feel secure, to have someone to trust. Sex seem to be secondary thing in that kind of relationship.
I don’t know. Apes, Primates, our closest relatives in nature are having sex just for fun, for relaxation, for comfort. And we kno that very little children masturbate just to relieve tensions in themselves.
Sex and full stomach are cheapest sources of serotonin that makes us feel happy and fulfilled. Instead of drugs that docs subscribe us.

Wow…you take away the faux ethics and morality in a traditional family setting and you have two brothers who found love & comfort amidst two horrible, alcoholic parents. I think this happens a lot….and the brothers usually move on because so much in life changes. There’s only stigma attached to this scenario, because most want it to be. The brothers should talk about it…the love & comfort part, so they could move on and keep the good memories without shame.
I don’t understand the “center” part…it looked more like a jail. Was it supposed to be like a therapy type place? Was there a legal issue in all this?

I think you are right. This happens a lot more than what we believe. Most brothers experiment sexually, if not only to visually compare equipment. The brothers in this video short took that sharing too far. It was harmful.
We are left wondering how far did the sex go. Did the big brother go beyond the boundaries of comforting. I believe he did. The most hurtful thing he did was make that promise to an impressionable young boy, and then there was the incest. That is harmful too if the sexual activity wasn’t mutually consensual.
This is very difficult subject matter. There is no easy way to tell this story. But it is a story that–I am sure–has been played out in real life many times, in many families.

We really don’t know if the sex was harmful. It could have been nothing more than mutual masturbation or BJ’s….we just don’t know. The void left for us to fill has many permutations. Most brothers move on without incident…life and new partners just changes everything. In rare cases, one boy usually the younger one, will hold on to the dream of ‘together forever’.
I moderated a site once that was started by a young adult who held onto ‘together forever’ with a married man and a past inter-generational relationship. The man moved on, the young man couldn’t. I guess there’s always the danger of that….and the inverse as well.

I disagree with part of what I think you’re saying here, Liam. It seemed to me that the sex was completely consensual, so no the big brother did not “go beyond [any] boundaries.” The sharng did not go too far, it wasn’t harmful; brothers expeimenting sexually isn’t always so.

A very well done short film. I completely understand how important the relationship between the brothers was. I did have the uneasy feeling that the man telling the story was incarcerated given the sterile setup for the interview. I only hope this wasn’t to assign blame to the brothers. Any blame clearly rests with the alcoholic parents. It is a shame that societal stigma has prevented the brothers from talking about their childhood and resolving their issues..

I like that Michael was able to be a really close companion to his younger brother and the fact that it got even closer is not the fault of either boys. They sure didn’t get any love from there parents. So in the absents of love from the so-called parents these boys found love between them selves. Its a shame that the younger brother did not see that the older brother had to move on. What I don’t understand, has the younger brother had problems all of these years because of Paul moving on to college and getting married. Who is he telling this great secret to. I just don’t understand the ending.

I don’t think this is necessarily supposed to be as much of a feel good story as it seems–does the fact they had sex make anyone else a little uncomfortable? Seems like the older brother sort of took advantage of his younger brother then cut him off, leaving lasting mental effects. I don’t think he was in jail tho…

Not in the least…it was a natural response of two boys heavily into puberty. Possibly, the younger boy only needed to be held and feel safe. The fact that it turned into sex doesn’t make it inappropriate by definition. A lot of boys learn about sex from an older brother. It’s all about the stetting; whether its coerced, consensual etc. The stigma imposed on the situation did the most damage, not the sex.

You make a good point cj. It is a heart breaking story. But I think the sex was secondary to the security the brothers sought in each other. I don’t think it was coerced or abusive. But the separation was undoubtedly traumatic for the younger brother. It would be interesting to know more though.

Like I said cj, the younger brother just wasn’t ready for the older brother to up and move on. I guess the younger brother just thought this was the way it was suppose to be and he was happy with that. Then the older one moves on to college and then up and gets married, this has got to be a shocker to the younger one. He never saw this coming, but it seems it took some time for him to come out of this perfect picture of life he had when he was younger. What did he do all the time his big brother was on his on. What made him decide to tell his story after all these years. You see, that’s what I can’t figure, but I’am just a simple man when it comes to this kind of stuff.
