Bully
"More than 18 million young people across the US will be bullied this year. This alarming documentary takes us into the disquieting day-to-day lives of five kids and their families over the course of a school year. Two families are left devastated by their sons’ suicide, while one mother faces her 14-year-old daughter’s incarceration after she threatens her bullies with a gun. Rare access to the Sioux City Community School District captures up close and disturbing ‘on the ground’ footage of bullying in classrooms, playgrounds, cafeterias, and school buses. Kids who are made into outcasts at school become the film’s heroes as they defend their right to be different and courageously give testimony to the trauma and dangers of severe bullying. "
The film comes out March 30.

What exactly did he say at 1:23?

“My voice is not going to fall silent, I will go to my grave until a difference is made”
Maybe he did not use the correct wording, but I understand that he means he will not stop until a difference is made.

Yeah. I guess it was actually kind of silly for me to comment on that.

I’m so gonna make my dad watch this. He was the one who didn’t stand up for me when I was bullied, he thought the best thing for me to do is to try to “adapt”. I didn’t kill myself, he was lucky and I was strong and stubborn. Now, he will se what could’ve done. I’m gonna make him realize what he should’ve done.

Before relocating to Oregon from California, I saw a bumper sticker that read “My son can kick your honor student son’s ass.”

I haven’t seen this yet, but I think the over-arching message in this movie is one that I’ve been preaching to the kids I advise, for a long time. If you are bullied, you do not need to “adapt”, you do not need to change who you are, or live in fear. There is always somebody out there willing to stand up for you, and if nobody does, you aren’t squawking loud enough; make your voice heard!

I wish this sort of message could get out there where it counts, more and more. I’ll go see this movie and relive memories of my own and hope that one day things will change.

I would just give out a can of Bully B-Gone to my kids. I think its sold under other names like MACE. I think it comes in flavors such as Pepper, but in all flavors it is available as a spray.

I come to this site on my phone and youtube sucks on my phone so iI usually cant watch the videos they post. Is this going to b a theatrical film or what?

Film loses it’s battle for PG-13 rating, will be “R”. What this means is that kids won’t be able to go see this film without a parent or guardian present. This undercuts the film’s mission to get its message out to both adults and youth. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/02/24/idUS271854838420120224

You guys should just round those bullies up and send them here to Australia. Pretty much all the schools in the country have a very serious no bullying attitude and you’d get never get entire schools ignoring the problem of gay bullying or any bullying for that matter. They woudn’t last a second here.
That is why I find it hard to come to terms that there are schools in America that actively ignore these problems and even entire communities who back this kind of behaviour, when where I come from it’s so rare to see this severity of bullying. I feel sorry for all those who have to live with it.

What you say is very surprising to me but good to hear. It is hard for me to imagine a middle school or highschool without bulling. In america it is like a rite of passage that every boy is expected to go through. If I did not fight back my alpha male father would have been all too happy to kick my ass. It really is hard for american adults to change their opinion on this issue after so many generations of adult men who bragg about their after school and school ground fights and beating up on nerds, sissies and queers plus the girls love them for it. It really is going to be an up hill battle to turn this around here.

It’s the same everywhere this happens…if you cut through all the bullshit rhetoric of school administrations and goodnick parents. Challenge the other students…challenge the jocks and the ‘cool kids’ to really show off their balls by standing up for these students who are ‘different’. You wanna be a ‘man’ and act like a ‘man’, just step forward with others like you and stop the bullying. It can take as few as three people to stand up and stop someone’s hellish torment…..

85% of the people that commented on this one are from the US – it seems this bullying is a really bad habit over there.
I mean, we have it in my country too… but compared to what the US has i would just call it mild teasing – it’s never physical abuse, only verbal…and it’s rarely more than innocent. And when it is more you have the whole class that stands up for that person as if there is an invisible line that you aren’t allowed to pass(and become a bully). Even in the bad areas, schools don’t get bullying, they get fights mostly, and fights without weapons i might add.
Any thoughts on why this mainly happens in the US? … Also.. does this happen more in England and Australia compared to for example .. france, spain, italy etc?

It’s safe to assume that bullying occurs in every country. You won’t ever get exact numbers though because it mostly happens under the radar of adults.

You obviously have not read the comments by Michael #12 here about Australia ..

ofc, but these measures suggest there IS a serious problem (or was) and now someone wants to solve it by applying some measures. In my country not even 1 kid committed suicide (or even attempted) for “bullying”. Now if you’ve got a more productive comment i am eager to listen to it.

Oh, the irony. This film about your life has been deemed not suitable for your own viewing. People, they’re the worst.

this goes so deep…children are dead………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………ive watched so much documentation about this….its sickens me and me makes me cry….kids are not safe when they go to school! a movie can help,,,but the underlying message is stand up for them,,,,if they are bullied it as such…god i feel sick ,,,to see these beautiful young people die
and you have adults standing up and approving these acts…do you want your kids going to school with them…
