I heard that only seven states in the usa allow gay marriage. Seems to me you guys there still have a long way to go. Land of the free? Not for gay couples.

agree!

How about freedom FROM marriage? I am marriage free and very happy with that situation. I am free to fuck everything that moves!
about 1 year ago
Well, some of us like the idea of a monogamous relationship. And we want the ability to have one.

Criticizing the U.S. for only having seven states that allow gay marriage is like criticizing the E.U. for only having seven countries that allow gay marriage. New York State alone has a population larger than the Netherlands. My guess is that all of the E.U. will get gay marriage before all of the U.S., but I doubt if all of Europe will get gay marriage before the U.S. Even Alabama is ahead of Russia and the Ukraine in gay rights: http://centralalabamapride.org/gallery/pride-2011

Yep only seven, we have a VERY long way to go….

God, I hate American “comedy”.
about 1 year ago
Why???? Because our comedians can tell it like it is? Or is it that you just prefer being snotty …… err …… snooty about everything? Sorry, your tea & crumpets are “awaiting” for you.

So seven states that alow same sex marriage… And they call themselves a free country?

I *heart* Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart. The dolphin segment was pretty good, you guys should see the other gay segments on their respective shows.

Damn right it’s the land of the free. Where the people against gay-marriage, right or wrong, have the chance to be heard and be represented for what they believe in. I’m so sorry that we’re not living up to your expectations. Some people actually think it’s a nice thing that people around the country have different viewpoints and ideals.
about 1 year ago
Yeah your right. Americans are good at freedom of speech.
Never should have let women vote. Haha.
I dont even agree** with marriage but i do believe that if someone wants to marry someone of the same sex that they should have every right to.
** = when i say ‘agree’, I’m gay, but i dont see the point in marriage. You don’t need a label to show that you love someone. The way i feel is enough to keep me happy.
about 1 year ago
It’s not about the label, it’s about the rights that go along with it. Simple things, like being able to visit your partner in the hospital, things like that. There are also all the financial advantages to consider.
about 1 year ago
Those should be rights for everybody, married or not. There should be no financial advantage whatsoever whether someone is married or not, nor should your ability to get get health-care coverage depend on it. Married people should not get tax breaks. That is inequality at its worst.
And you mean the hospital will stop you if you say you are not married to someone? Just say you’re the son, or brother, or father. I have never been challenged on this count. And anyway, if you really wanted a law of equality, anyone you choose should be able to visit you in the hospital.
Get your battles organized and fight for the rights of all people not just the dizzy queens.

“And you mean the hospital will stop you if you say you are not married to someone? Just say you’re the son, or brother, or father.”
This won’t work if someone who’s actually related to them tells the hospital staff not to let you in. I’ve known several people who have been kept from visiting their partners in the hospital by next-of-kin who weren’t accepting of their relative’s sexuality… it’s especially tragic when the hospitalized individual dies.

Sixle said: “next-of-kin who weren’t accepting of their relative’s sexuality…”
Another good reason to abolish the family. That’s the source of the real tragedy, the whole neurotic basis of that sacred cow called “the family”.
The most murders, the most abuse, the most psychotic behavior takes place within the family.
And gays want to bring these “blessings” crashing down on their own heads?

@Corkas:
“Yeah your right. Americans are good at freedom of speech.”
1) … Let’s see ……….. {as I Google “Aussie gay marriage”} …….. Wait ……. I don’t see it legal anywhere in the “Land of Oz.” ……… So it looks like we (USA) are getting there just a bit sooner, yes (albeit a bit slowly)?
Maybe you should think twice (at least) before you open your mouth?
2) … By what I’ve seen lately in the news, it appears that some of our “christian fundamentalists” have been swimming to your shores to attempt to do the same things in your society as ours.
Be careful when you open your Aussie mouth — a big, honkin’ Aussie boot may just fly inside — the same one that fundie pastor is wearing — and you know what’s on the bottom of that boot, don’t you?
about 1 year ago
But we are close to having gay marriage legalised for the whole country. It is possible it will be next year, probable that it will take a bit longer. The problem is not with religious conservatives – there are too few to worry about – but that the main opposition comes form electorates that both major parties need to win to gain government. The opposition is often cultural rather than religious. While all Australians are equal, those who inhabit electorates where the incumbent member won by often no more than a dozen votes are more equal, and become more so as elections approach. Most of our politicians are brave enough to stand up to the religious right, but losing their seat in parliament is way more then most can bear. But I would be very surprised if we don’t have gay marriage with support from both major parties in the next 5 years.

@ Marc – What are you in, the 5th grade?
poligamy = polygamy,
gouverment = government,
im = I’m,
glade = glad,
we re = we’re,
“shit yo” = ???
Etc…
Learn to be articulate and write intelligently so you can at LEAST be understood.
I’m glad you’re Canadian as well; I’d be embarrassed if you were in the U.S. and had had that poor usage of grammar.
I’m far from perfect, but golly you are awful!

Eh, just like some posts aren’t worth responding to, others aren’t worth reading past the first four words.
I’m not one to harass folk about grammar, spelling, or punctuation (I’m well aware I’m not great at them myself), but I learned long ago that people that don’t at least TRY to make their posts intelligible usually don’t have anything to say that’s worth reading in the first place.
Now, I’ll be silently thanking whoever had the idea of building the automatic spell-check feature into Firefox as I hit the “Submit Comment” button.

Sixle:
Agreed. This will be the only time I’ll mention this because the concept is so simple.
If you want to at least appear to be intelligent, then there are 2 tools every computer has that connects to the Internet:
1. Google/Bing (or another search engine)
2. Separate Text Editor/Word Processor
You don’t have any excuses to not use either/both of these.

I say wasted because I don’t want to shock you Americans people… I know you can’t bear the vision of blood nor hell, so I get it easy on you lol
about 1 year ago
“Wasted” must mean something completely different in Belgium then in the US if blood or hell are involved….
On another topic, if you think we can’t handle the sight of blood, you obviously haven’t seen any American TV or movies in the last 30 or so years.
