Kids my ass. Unless an athlete happens to be homosexual, he/she probably doesn’t know about and couldn’t care less about “pressure from the Gay Press.” There is also no exploitative sexuality from the mainstream media either.
What we have here is several thousand Teenagers and Twinks at the peak of physical perfection – each one a perfect model for your next Greek statue. The sexuality is from within – not from without. Speedos, spandex, tight uniforms, clinging to absoutely perfect bodies – all ramp up the inate eroticism of athleticism.
These athletes comprise a unique sub-culture, with membership closed to all but the most worthy. With few exceptions, these young ‘gods and godesses’ are not interested in the local hoi polloi – but are much more eager and likely to bed one another. Why settle for less?

Good to know I was not the only one who had that impression when I saw it on TV.
I was just disappointed by that one US athlete – it looked as if he was wearing Weird Al wigs under his armpits. Shaving should be part of the diving regulations. At least some trimming.

I was hoping that Josh would post something about Tom Daley. I have been following Tom since he made his debut in Beijing in 2008 when he was just 14. He has to be one of the hottest athletes!
Yesterday Tom Daley missed a medal and landed in 4th place and had a hurl of Twitter abuse including:
“I’m sure your dad is very disappointed in you” (His father passed away from cancer last year)
Luckily after that message was posted, 6 trending topics started in support of him.
Lets hope he can claim a gold medal when he competes again.

After these pics were posted here, I somewhat carefully watched the female synchronized diving (10 meter) last night. Guess what? NBC had no qualms allowing the full crotch of the girls being shown as they exited the pool and rinsing off after their dive. And their suits? If the crotch area were even a little bit narrower/smaller, you would be able to see where you shouldn’t — their cameras made it clear that all the girls must be wearing some sort of cup/protection otherwise the swimsuit material would have folded up inside — at least a bit. They were quite “loose” in the placement of those “score” banners for all the girls.
But, my oh my, they were extremely vigilant of the banners for all the boys getting out of the pool and rinsing off. Definitely a bit of “one-way” censorship.

There have been instances of College Athletes who lost scholarships and team positions after posing for glamor shots (okay they were on a website, but they were NOT porn, just naked selfs). I think the idea is great, just not realistic. But didn’t Mark Spitz make a tasty poster boy in his day?

I recall the winter Olympics about 20yrs ago when a camera was present as one of the skater lads changed his costume, (Don’t ask why, cause I don’t know.) After that incident I think the network got some real scolding on what is appropriate and they have been trying to “thread the needle” ever since. This years Swimming and Diving banners are just one silly attempt to do the same. YES< they way they do it makes it more, not less, erotic. I am in agreement with earlier posts that these athletes are prime examples of young man and woman hood. WHY should anyone be shamed to show off what they have. ITS looks for god sake, not "grabs"
