1) Prove to me that God exists before you use him/her to take away my rights.
2) The room is filled with old white people only. WTH?
3) Jesus, in all the time he supposedly was here preaching on this earth never never never spoke about homosexuality. He spoke on almost every other moral issue. Why not this? Perhaps because it wasn’t a problem in the first place?
4) It would have been nice if we could read for ourselves the ordinance that is up for vote.
5) The greatest evil begins with ideologies and religion.
6) THIS GUY ROCKS! Sometimes you need to shove their bigotry down their throats.
7) Reading the old laws about racial segregation was a cool thing to do. You really have to see it all.

1. Gee, I thought that just because God says he exists, therefore he exists. Isn’t that proof positive?
2. They must still have segregation in Springfield, Missouri.
3. Probably because he was gay himself, and everyone back then knew it, and didn’t care, so it wasn’t an issue.
4. If you do a Google search on:
council bill 2012-226 springfield missouri
a link to a pdf file comes up at the top. It’s long and very, very boring. I didn’t read it.
5. Amen.
6. Usually doesn’t work. They just vomit it up again.
7. Plus it was great that he was a preacher.

Scott, I appreciate your sarcasm and understand it. That said:
But, “1. Gee, I thought that just because God says he exists, therefore he exists. Isn’t that proof positive?” essentially gives credence to this book of lies (I no longer refer to it as even “fiction.”)
“God” has has never spoken and will never speak about “existence of any god [himself? but definitely not "herself"].” Therefore “that” isn’t any “proof” by a long shot. And if anyone ever states publicly that “god has spoken” or that “god has written” anything, then I will gladly and publicly call him/her a liar. Those books of lies [both, the "bible" and the "koran" /sp and any others] were dreamed up by and written by control hungry people of that time who (and I have to give them this much credit) recognized and acted upon the idea that humans [at that time] “needed” some sort of deity that “could punish them” if they didn’t believe in it and that with enough “persuasion,” would believe it this hocus-pocus and at the same time, provide them wealth beyond even what they could imagine. They, at that time, needed something to convince the masses since their “beliefs” of “multiple gods” were waning quickly and they were losing control and wealth.
Actual proof that those books are lies: The very nature of them — “written” by hundreds, if not thousands of people trying desperately to get people to believe in their ideas and of course edited, translated to the upteenth time that no one can count. Add a good dollup of stupidity about science to the (then) natural human fears of the forces of nature, and voilà! you have “a god” — but to make ‘him’ more believable, make him “born” on Earth in one of the most pathetic regions of this planet among some of the most stupid people living anywhere around there, and again, voilà! j.c. ["son of god"] born in an animal stable among the service animals. And, let’s lie about the time of his birth — and give it a special name just after the winter solstice (because if he really had been born then, he would have died from the cold) so that it would be “celebrated.” And, let’s further this lie by having “3 kings seek him out,” since, of course other “kings” would so want to see some quite literal, dirt-poor schmuck born in an animal stable when all of them were born of “natural wealth.” Oh, and the “absolute topper?” Make this schmuck be “born from a virgin,” naturally so that no one would/”could” argue this (because no other human has been or would ever be born this way).
I could go on and on and on about the lies ……….. but hopefully, the masses finally get the point.
It’s truly amazing that so many have so little common sense about this.

I’m one of those that has no common sense about this. I will pray for you. Whether you like it or not.

That is a personal decision of yours, and then again, prayer is more for the benefit and satisfaction of the person praying than anything else.

horselips,
One of the most important ideas I have ever heard was that the so-called greatest statement of religious morality, popping up in just about every religion worldwide, The Golden Rule, is really not a very good ethical guide. It is essentially self-centered. “Treat others as you would like them to treat you” is much inferior to “treat others as they would like to be treated”. The first essentially imposes your value system on them, while the second takes their value system into consideration. George Bernard Shaw said it best: “Do not do unto others as you would that they should do unto you. Their tastes may not be the same”.
Just read your statement again and really think about it: “I will pray for you. Whether you like it or not.” Do you really think that is good morality and ethics? Is that how your religion tells you to treat me? Please keep in mind I am a complete and total Atheist. If so, I think you should rethink some of the ideas that your religion is teaching you.
That said, if praying for me makes you feel good, that’s fine by me. It is harmless to me, and I would be a hypocrite if I didn’t welcome your prayers, because that is how you would like to be treated. However, the Golden Rule (inferior) and “treat others the way they would like to be treated” (much superior) both break down when the other person is causing harm, intentional or not. When your religious beliefs start causing me harm in some way, then yes, I will object and try to stop your actions. I have the ethical right to do so.
Scott
P.S. Actually, I am definitely not a paragon of ethics and morality. That last paragraph was really just an exercise in logic. Deep down inside I dislike religion about as much as Penboy above, I just try to appear more reasonable when I actually say something for public consumption.

I just ‘love it’ when some religious guy insists that he will pray for others. It is an enormous insult veiled in politeness and concern. Such things are flames and flames should not exist here. Keep your weaponry to yourself. This statement that you will pray for him ‘whether he likes it or not’ is akin to threatening him. Such acts are vile and have no place here.

horselips [and others]:
“I’m one of those that has no common sense about this.”
I know you’re being sarcastic with that comment as your own “little put-down” to me because I’m a vocal Atheist (and will always continue to be).
But, the funniest part of that statement is that it really is the total truth and quite factual while trying to be “sarcastic.” For anyone who “prays” or otherwise continues to believe in some bullshit religion, there is no common sense and/logic. And a strange thing about this is that many “believers” will agree with that but continue to “believe” in their preferential hogwash anyway because their family does and/or they don’t have the mettle to dis any church and speak with common sense and logic.
Let’s take “prayer/praying” for example:
Scenario 1:
…… A natural disaster has just occurred and destroyed many homes and killed many people including a large number of young children. A TV Reporter quietly walks up to a woman looking in despair at the vast amount of damage to the area. He asks quietly, “How do you feel, miss, after seeing all of this?”
She replies, “It’s amazing! It happened so suddenly and look at all the damage and I’ve heard so many children perished as well. I’m going to pray for all of them.” She lowers her head and starts verbally whispering the next couple of minutes something that is mostly inaudible, but “god,” and “the lord” is heard and understood.
The TV Reporter states that a member of this community is now praying for everyone and everything in the area.
……………………………………
Scenario 2:
…… A middle aged couple is walking on a downtown street (possibly to their car after an event?), one of which is carrying a bible in hand. As they walk among the large crowd in the area with all the traffic and noise in the background, they see a man in somewhat tattered clothes come up to them and ask for some kind of handout (preferably money of some sort).
The couple refuse and state they have nothing to offer. As they walk away from this man, they hear him talking in a low level, [also] using words like “god” and “the lord.”
The man of the couple turns around and looks at the poverty-stricken man and sneers at him. He turns to his lady-friend and remarks how terrible crime is in the city and how “crazy” this man appears to be after hearing him lower his voice and utter some choice “religious” words.
.
.
“I will pray for you. Whether you like it or not.”
I really don’t give a shit what you want to do for me, sarcastically or not. I’ve just learned through my life to seriously question your level of “intelligence” that you need to parrot your parents, church people and other ignorant people that even think a single “prayer” could or would help in any possible way. Any person who states that “prayers” have accomplished anything for him/her is nothing more than a liar who desperately feels a need to “fit in with an equally ignorant crowd.” And, oh yes, they have this need to have people think they seriously care about a situation. When, in fact, it’s nothing more than being the most selfish a human can be: All “prayers” are for themselves only and never about someone else or a situation.

Penboy,
Do you really think they are all lies, or just the mistaken and outdated ideas of people living in a very different, very ancient culture that didn’t have the benefits of our current scientific and philosophical insight?
Penboy,
Here are some more inaccuracies (lies?) in the Bible, as shown by historical and archeological evidence:
The “Slaughter of the Innocents” (Herod killing all the first born Israeli children), and therefore the “Flight into Egypt”, probably never happened. Such a momentous event would almost certainly show up in Roman writings of the time, and there is absolutely no mention of it.
Jesus was probably not born in Bethlehem. That assertion was a late insertion into the Gospels, probably to fulfill prophecies from the Hebrew Bible.
Jesus probably did not have long hair. All the early depictions of him during Roman times have short hair.
The “virgin birth” was probably borrowed from Zoroastrianism, which was a very widespread religion at the time.
And the best of all: The whole Exodus story, including the “bondage” in Egypt, Moses, the plagues, the killing of the first born of Egypt, the Exodus, 40 years wandering in the desert, and conquering Canaan — all that — is probably just mythology. The Egyptologists have lots of writing from that period, and have a very good chronology of the Pharaohs and the major events of their reigns. Ramses II was an especially well documented Pharoah. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, about any of the Exodus stories in any historical source. If something, God or otherwise, had killed all the first born of Egypt, there certainly would have been a record of it. Plus the archeological evidence shows that the early Israelites were just Canaanites that had survived an Assyrian invasion of the fertile coastal lowlands and had taken refuge in the inland mountains. It’s all just a myth. Moses is probably not a real, historical person. So much for Charlton Heston. Yul Brynner played a real person, Ramses II, however, and really looked good in a skirt.

In fact, there is a passage in the Gospels that can be interpreted as talking about homosexuality (Matthew 19:12). This passage talks about “eunuchs” ; however, the word “eunuchs” in ancient patriarchal societies is believed to have had a wider meaning than in modern English, and would characterize any person not able to mess with one’s offspring : castrates, asexuals and homosexuals.
Here’s the text, (by the way, it’s only a translation from a translation, since the original version, most probably written in Aramaic, is lost):
Jesus speaking:
“For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.”
So, if there may be a doubt whether it really speaks of homosexuals, at least it is very clearly asking for positive acceptance (note that people “born that way” have an equal position in the syntax of this verse with those “who have renounced marriage because of the kingdom of heaven”, which I find remarkable). I also like the fact that Jesus recognizes that some people are just “born that way”, which would mean that homosexuality is just natural.
Any other Bible quotes about homosexuality is not reported from Jesus himself; some come from the Ancient Testament, some from Paul, the Preacher who has never met Jesus during his earthly life. All are highly subject to interpretation, with large uncertainty about to what extent they refer to what we now call homosexuality, the degree of condemnation, the cultural and contextual relevance of a now anachronistic literal interpretation…
However I’m just an atheist, and hate preachers may have learnt better from the voice of God itself ? (or so they would pretend…)

Congrats to him, what a hands down great approach to this argument.
In terms of gay rights and comparing them to the Bible, I think, as many people have said before, not just about gay rights, but the Bible as a whole, that the literature should be taken with a grain of salt, and that if you want to believe in it, then that is your choice. Yes, choice, just like the choice gays should be given in their decision whether to marry or adopt, or live their life the way they see fit for themselves.
People need to step back and realize how out of control this is getting, and they should put away their Bible and think for themselves, and how they would want to be treated.
The Bible has stated may controversial “laws”, and any Christian living by the Bible 100% will be condemned to hell (if that’s how they want to put people who are gay), because in one way or another, they have broken at least one of several sins; Lust, Greed, Gluttony, Envy, Sloth, Wrath or Pride.
Have you ever eaten something, not because you were hungry, but because it tasted good? According to the Bible, you have sinned. Gluttony.
Have you ever cheered on your daughter or son, or praised yourself for a job well done? According to the Bible, you have sinned. Pride.
Have you ever bought something, not because you needed it, but because you wanted it? According to the Bible, you have sinned. Greed.
You get the idea. People need to stop taking literature from the Bible and using it against arguments in a Court of law, or, for that matter, life in general, because if we took it word for word, we would all be guilty.
Seriously, look at yourselves before judging others.

You just have to laugh when this guy says gay people are the biggest problem they have to deal with. Should this guy have a son or a daughter and they were raped would he honestly still think gays are a big problem. Or terrorism, are we seriously more dangerous than them? Obviously the right for a man to marry a man or woman to marry a woman is clearly the biggest danger in the world. What a screw up.
“You just have to laugh when this guy says gay people are the biggest problem they have to deal with.”
Your post is so correct. But, you may miss the primary, but never discussed (by them) point of the religious against homosexuality. Ever notice how all religions spend more of their time and money speaking against and acting against and getting laws against homosexuality (and by extension, of course, same-sex marriage)? There’s a serious reason for this: As soon as they acknowledge homosexuality as “normal,” or even another “acceptable lifestyle,” then the very basis of their religion and “god” fall apart. The very existence of homosexuality is proof positive there is no god in any way as they continue to describe “him.” Take christianity’s insistence that homosexuality is “wrong and sinful and a choice,” for example. Remember that “their god created everything” and “knows everything” (as stated by no less than 2 stories of creation — they just couldn’t get their shit together). Well, by their own accounts then, “their god” also “created” homosexuality (in humans, anyway) and if/since he created it, then it must be good since everything done by him is always good. So, therefore, by association, homosexuality must also be good. And that’s according to their own writings.
But, they need an “enemy” or something (someone) to vilify so that “their god’s” punishment “is real.” Since homosexuality is real and tangible, it’s now the “sin of homosexuality” that’s evil now and must be punished so that they (the idiots who continue to) believe “their god is real.” If homosexuality is accepted as normal and natural, then anyone (with even an iota of intelligence) has to question the very nature of any “god.” After all, why would any they have to drum into every weak mind that homosexuality (and of course, by its extension, any same-sex activities that involve any type of romance) is the most evil thing on Earth.
What I laugh about (and cringe inside because of the huge number of really stupid people believing in this) is how all religions are so quick to say that same-sex marriage will “destroy all heterosexual marriages in the future” (never mind what adultery and divorce has done since the beginning of time had done to those “sacred” marriages).
Also, one more thing about homosexuality and religion. The very nature of a lying religion is that it must be passed on to the next generation in order for it to continue, homosexuality is now the “natural villain” because biologically, they can’t/won’t procreate and provide their religion future generations to brainwash.
And that’s the second key to any religion: Mass brainwashing of the very young before they have any opportunity to reach any sense of intelligent reasoning. That’s why they get the children into their churches, mosques and whatever else they use for indoctrination (and most definitely including any bible studies, catechisms, etc.). And to add injury to all this: the catholics insist on this constant sitting, standing and kneeling to insure that “you must work your fucking ass off to benefit from all this bullshit.” And the very same for all the islam/muslim religions & people — they force their children to “pray” and not only that, to “pray” in in the most subservient way possible for a human with their face on the floor (rug, whatever) and at incredibly young ages (at least as young as 3 years old). And don’t even try to say that “they/you are not forced” — because they most definitely are — at the very least, psychologically.
There you have it — homosexuals can’t/won’t [by nature] create offspring to provide their religion for the next generational brainwashing to continue their bullshit charade.
I just don’t understand how this is so “difficult” to understand by anyone with even a modicum of intelligence. It doesn’t take a genius to understand religion and their purposes — just a sense of natural reasoning. [Oops! Then of course, you have Michael and horselips.]

Christianity is ridiculous. I think people need to stop re-interpreting the bible it when it’s convenient, and just come to terms with the fact that it was never a valid source of information to begin with.
First off,, all of you that have concluded that there is no God,, lol,, where, and what factual proof have you??? I can’t help but laugh,,, I am a scientist, a chemical/ bio engineer. Let me tell you,, through my studies, and many thousands of other WELL INFORMED PEOPLE, the odds of there being NO CREATOR, are by calculation, so ridiculously in favor of a God that the actual numbers are difficult to give to you! Also, all scientists agree, all life, the earth, and all matter WAS created, it DID NOT simply come into EXISTENCE! For you all to make such childish comments about life, the earth, and our existence is SO SO VERY CHILDISH! Maybe you should read the bible a little before speaking about it’s validity, or, falsehood!!! In the bible, the are things mentioned about science, and information that the ancient bible scholars knew, such as the earth truly being ROUND! Yes, something that we take for granted, the ancients knew,, but sadly,, it took Columbus and 3 ships in 1492 to finally prove what the bible had said for thousands of years, not hundreds! And, in the old testament, King David spoke about DNA! Yes! It’s written: “Oh LORD,, how wonderfully you have made me! While I was an embryo in my mothers womb,, ALL MY PARTS WERE DOWN IN WRITING!” Yes,, he was 100% CORRECT! That’s exactly the truth,, all our body parts, are GENETICALLY WRITTEN DOWN IN THE DNA! Ask yourselves this, if you’re honest, and that may be a problem for some of you,, but,, ask yourself,,, how did a man, 3500 years ago,, without science, without scientists and biologists to aid him, come to know such intricate information???? Now,, look at your own body,, and for some of you, your penis, which you seem to be sooo fascinated by,, ask yourself,, what force, what creator insisted that I have one,, and,, NOT a female? Remember also,, you are a guest on this earth, traveling through space at more than 64,000 mph,, and,,,, yes,,,,, there is a driver!!!! Don’t,, I repeat DON’T try and take the wheel!!! You will be sorry,,, think about this!!! We are all living creatures that are in a giant terrarium, floating through space,,, don’t rebel against the owner of the terrarium,, you need to stop trying to be God,, and start being the creature that life made you,,, a man,,, or,,,, a woman,,, stop misusing your tool!!! If I use a hammer for a screwdriver, I am absolutely at fault,, and I must accept it!!! There are keys,, and,, there are locks, right??? If a person has only, factually, only 2 keys,, and not ONE LOCK,, what can he do with keys ONLY??? Or,, the reverse analogy,, 2 locks, and no keys!?!?! This is exactly what many gays fail to realize!!! And they insist that the analogy is wrong,, yet it is perfectly accurate, and CANNOT be dismissed as faulty in it’s application here!!! Grow up!!! Yes, some people have mental fixations for the same sex,, but,, factually,, it is AGAINST NATURE ITSELF! AND WE CAN FORGET GOD HERE,, IT’S A SIMPLE FACT!!! I say,, you should fight for what you were born as,, don’t delude yourself,, because no matter if 1000 years should pass,, if you have a penis,,, you are supposed to insert it into a vagina,, this my friends,,, will NEVER BE DELUDED AWAY FROM RATIONALITY!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!

Columbus did not believe the earth was flat— most people then did not either. That outdated notion that people believed the earth was flat stemmed from an old text in the 11-1300s.
The calculations are so in favor of a creator you can’t give us numbers? That doesn’t make any sense. What calculations have you done?
Two locks, no keys? Dear Christ, you’re bad. Why should it matter? Also, it isn’t against nature. THOUSANDS of species have homosexual behaviors.
Of course, you don’t care. Because fuck science, right?
“I can’t help but laugh,,, I am a scientist, a chemical/ bio engineer.”
And I couldn’t help but laugh — at your incredible ignorance of biology. You claim to know science, but you just babble on about a total fictional and lying ‘bible’ just as any deluded ignorant religious person who has been brainwashed since (I’ll assume) your early childhood. I well know the symptons, as I was nearly as brainwashed as you are now — my family is very religious and even my uncle was a catholic priest — so I know all the signs.
For example: “Now,, look at your own body,, and for some of you, your penis, which you seem to be sooo fascinated by,, ask yourself,, what force, what creator insisted that I have one,, and,, NOT a female?”
For someone “who knows bio,” have you never had sex with a female before [or at least been curious enough to learn some of their parts --- you know, like people of real science are]? Do you not know what her Clitoris is all about? It’s nothing more than a mini-penis inside her vagina doing nearly exactly the same bio function as a penis for a male — just without “seed.” It provides sexual pleasure in nearly the same way — in appearance (only much smaller) and actions (becoming erect and giving her orgasms). Yeah, you really know science and biology, don’t you? [You do know sarcasm, right?]
“Yes, some people have mental fixations for the same sex,, but,, factually,, it is AGAINST NATURE ITSELF! AND WE CAN FORGET GOD HERE,, IT’S A SIMPLE FACT!!!”
Again, just some rambling that shows pure stupidity. There are recorded same-sex activities throughout the animal kingdom so therefore, it’s not “AGAINST NATURE ITSELF” — it is, in fact, nature and purely natural.
And, “First off,, all of you that have concluded that there is no God,, lol,, where, and what factual proof have you???”
First, what proof do you have that there is, absolutgely a “god?” I’ll answer, it’s NONE. And if you say you do, and use lying ridiculous religious books as “proof”, then I’ll call you a liar, with real history, science and logic on my side. And since this entire Earth has never been presented with even an iota of any “proof” of any “god” [and will never be there] then I’ll happily conclude there is, in fact, no “god.”
I’m not going into anything else because you just demonstrated pure ignorant rambling of some equally ignorant religious freak. The remaining of your post was just total rambling religious bullshit. And, one last point, where did you learn how to write? Not in any school I’ve known about.
