This picture, taken during the Greece riots, is actually my desktop background. It’s comforting to know others out there like this picture as much as I do

“US author of middle-grade novels not allowed to see class via Skype because he might be a pedo”
Quite a leap from the text of the blog post, which describes a teacher merely trying to follow school guidelines about privacy and confidentiality (many of which are probably difficult and confusing for the teacher). Some of the rules are of course meant to protect kids from pedophiles but that’s not all they’re about. One teacher trying to stick with the rules while still providing the opportunity for the class to talk to the author does not equate to the teacher considering the man a potential pedophile.
Anyway, why exactly is an author of middle-grade books talking to elementary school children, or have a lot of interaction with them? Middle-grade is not elementary school, it’s middle school (or used to be called junior high school). Someone sufficiently paranoid could easily consider that a prime reason to suspect the guy.

The thing about “child safety” software intercepting chat messages is appalling. I think I’ll mention it to a few people too.

Interesting you posted about the Universal Health Care situation in the US, I am from the US and let me tell you these doctors here think they are the high and mighty in their fields but they are so dam closed minded. I have been feeling ill for the last several months, first it was everything from MS, to Lupas, to Cancer, to High Blood pressure, or a Pulmonary Disease and they still can’t figure out what the hell is going on. Then they were about to put me on anti-anxiety drugs until I developed a new symptom which proves something in my body is actually going on.
I have talked to someone who has family in Honduras (a country normally doctors in the US might want you to think is behind in health care), and they treated her daughter who’s body temperature rose frequently causing seizures, 1 year of antibiotics and she is fine. The US doctors couldnt figure it out and now her doctors want to talk to the doctors in Honduras.
Sorry I am ranting but, it seems like the US is so developed that they think there is only “limited diseases” to look for, where other countries are more open to other diseases, symptoms, causes, and yes other countries seem to be more adept to treating diseases caused by parasites.
For a country that charges so much for education, it seems like the education in the US is more dictated by “markets” or people who “control the markets” rather than actual knowledge professionals. Sure in the US you might not have to wait to go to the ER and get a Catscan the same night, but half the doctors Catscan probably for the wrong reasons, where Drs under Universal Healthcare might Catscan for the right reasons.
