He’ll be missed.

OMG I did not know

yes he will. Maybe a hundred years from now he will be understood, and then his true gift to humanity will be appreciated.

RIP Micheal…
I watched him on TV from his early days and as old as I am, I consider him to be one of the most enigmatic, tragic genius the entertainment world may see. I’m 70 and still play his Thriller, Billy Jean CDs and DVDs
along with so few of the newer ‘talent’.
Private life aside, he certainly will be missed and never forgotten.
This man was a great artist and they tore him apart in much the same way that they did Oscar Wilde. I regret to say that i expected an early death for him. Wilde died at 45.
So he liked boys? so fuckin what!
yes he will be missed, he liked boys yeah ok, he maybe rape some boys O.o not fuckin OK but he was a great singer and dancer and one of the biggest icons (maybe the biggest) of pop culture, and for that he will be remenber i hope

The King is dead. Long live the King.

Underneath the hype, he was a very nice soft spoken man when I met him.

A great, great artist has died. He was a man-grown boy, but what a BOY!
I fell for him when I first saw and heard him on TV. I guess it was on Ed Sullivan? We were the same age. It kills me that he thought he needed to change his looks.. He was cute as hell from the first time I saw him, until after that horrible nose job.
I had a huge crush on him as a kid too.
I love his old music.
Bit of a freak show, tho.
i’m deeply sadden by his passing. he will be missed forever <33
about 3 years ago
Unconfirmed reports suggest cause of death as ‘self-induced’ cardiac arrest! If this is the case news of further allegations will be just around the corner. Its a shame such a talent will be generally remembered for all the wrong reasons, because ‘molested’ boys will be coming out the woodwork everywhere to cash in on a media frenzy of speculation and thinly disguised innuendo.

thanks for posting this josh. a peculiarly american tragedy

A lot of nice posts here, thank you all for doing so. Michael, may you now be in a better place although you will be sorely missed from this life.
In his heyday he was unequaled, with many fine performances and routines that awed millions for years.
I thought it apt, and just, that Macauley Culkin testified at Michael’s hearing where he stood accused of violating an underage boy, that Michael had never treated him badly nor did anything to be considered violating his person. Apt, just, and heavily underplayed.
Thanks Josh. You rock.

As sad as I am that he’s dead, I don’t see the big deal at all. Tons of people die everyday, just because he can sing it’s a tragedy? Maybe if he was an active singer but he’s been hiding himself for a few years.
Personally I was never a fan, I admit he’s got talent, I’m just not really a fan.
And…how does this relate to boys? He was 50. :S

He was active, his comeback tour with 50 shows was scheduled to begin next month.

Uhg, I was hoping nobody would bring-up the accusation that he ‘raped boys’.
He did not rape boys… If you paid attention to the trials back in 2005, the witnesses were full of sh**, and he was dominating the court-room.
The fact that he was a bit eccentric means that he a prime target for molestation lawsuits; he was a great man, and he did not commit any crimes against children. He donated millions to children funds, and ran Neverland Ranch where he filled many children with joy (I mean joy as in happiness, not as in his penis).

While I’m certainly a fan of his music I am finding the reaction to his death to be slightly peculiar. I think it would be fair to say that if you asked people what they thought of MJ 24 hours ago the responses would be mixed. Yet it seems he is being almost universally praised in death – it’s often said truly great people are not appreciated till they are dead!
To the poster above me: I feel that the actions of the defense lawyers in that trial are not something to be proud of(“he was dominating the court-room”). The defense basically spent a huge amount of time attacking the children and claiming they were liars/evil etc. Ironic really that a man that loved children so much paid so many lawyers and PR people to destroy them.
whaa? Do you know anything about law deebee?
If you are innocent, you prove that the others are liars. If your GUILTY, you SHOW KINDNESS AND DEFUNCT facts presented.
The fact that he didn’t back down, he ousted the extortionists and all, that shows that it was ok.
:: R.I.P. MJ, the entertainment world just took a turn at an empty, misty night-time traffic intersection; as is your spirit which you had shown us ::
But lets flip those accusers situation around, these people had other backgrounds for extortion or equil morally leveled actions and that shouldn’t mean there’s a chance they are doing it now.. Um.. Honestly, I am willing to bet a helluvalot that he loved boys – at the same time I really think the people that he tore up in court were not good people.
Don’t defend a bigger imperfection from a smaller one, we’re all pretty damn imperfect..

We’ll never really find out what had occured at Neverland … we weren’t there to be able to judge. Whatever happened – it’s over. May he find the peace he never had in real life. Without doubt he was a real genius and one of the greatest entertainer we’ve had! RIP

My heart is aching beyond anything I can write or say. Yet, I never once met the man. Never went to a concert. Never saw him in person once.
Grew up wanting to dance like him…singing almost every song he ever made.
I can’t believe it,…but I feel absolutely crushed, off to Neverland Michael…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7T1E1aI95Ro&feature=related

It was completely eclipsed by the one-two punch of Michael and Farrah, but all the hipster kids are mourning yesterdays passing of the great Sky Saxon (The Seeds – Pushin’ to Hard) as well.

I don’t believe he had sex with those boys. He seemed more asexual. I think he was just trying to capture the youth that his family denied him.
Too bad he destroyed his good looks with all that unnecessary surgery.
I think he was a fellow Milkie, and we should appreciate his life.
Oh please. I’m sorry that he died, but let’s face facts. The man got lucky on a few, forgetable pop-dribble albums, and then became obsessed with his own fame and mediocre looks. If he wasn’t such a side-show, he’d have been forgotten long ago.
“lucky on a few, forgetable pop-dribble albums”?
Thriller is the most sold album ever.

Popular does not necessarily mean good.

Musical tastes are very subjective. I learned at a young age not to be influenced by whether or not the music was ‘cool’. Thriller was good music. It was a very well crafted pop album, thanks to Quincy Jones.

Deebee says this: “Ironic really that a man that loved children so much paid so many lawyers and PR people to destroy them.”
Please do us a favour, and THINK before you spout this kind of gibberish! He was found NOT GUILTY on all counts, ffs! Maybe you are sorry about that, but get used to it. He was hounded by the press and other media, who turned millions of people against him without a SHRED of evidence. You are clearly one such person, just drifting along with the tide of public opinion. Even though MJ was found innocent by a court of law, you haven’t changed your mind or opinion, by the look of things.
He didn’t pay lawyers to destroy innocent children; he paid lots of money he no longer had to defend his name and bring himself justice. The way his trial was run speaks volumes about the appalling state of justice in the USA, where only the richest of the rich can expect to win malicious cases brought against them.
I feel so sad that this man had such an unhappy childhood that he tried to continue as a child even after he reached adulthood. The tragedy is that genuine respect for others is now dead. Everybody has to snipe. sigh
about 3 years ago
Well I’m sorry if you thought I was taking a swipe – I do have respect for MJ but I think you can respect someone yet still disagree with aspects of their life? I didn’t say that he was guilty(how on earth would I know?), I merely pointed out that I personally disagreed with the way his defense was run.
A sad and untimely end for an extremely creative and talented individual, an individual who endured internal pain and agony that few of us can even imagine. Because of his talent and notoriety, he was pursued, tormented, slandered, libelled by those who targeted him because he was ‘different.’ I suppose one lesson we can all learn from MJ is that when one becomes a target, all the money in the world won’t stop the vigilantes….and imagine each one of us in some way having to fight the same battles MJ fought without the benefit of his resources.
I hope at least now, he’s found the peace he longed for. And i hope his detractors are really proud of themselves. Maybe another legacy he leaves behind is that they really didn’t win after all.

Michael was a massive contributor to American pop music and changed the entire music world through his multi-platinum albums. Almost by himself, Michael promoted a world view of inclusion rather than exclusion, and an attitude of indifference to criticism that would detract from his message. All one has to do to validate my opinion is to search the world indexes for his music. He was revered on all continents as the greatest gift to pop music who ever lived – just look at some of his Asian concert videos, if you don’t believe me!!!
His music shall endure forever, as it rightly should, no matter the scurrilous exhortations of his nay-sayers.
When our grandchildren are reviewing what used to be the internet, 40 years from now, Michael’s music will still be popular – they just won’t understand ‘relaxed hair’ and clothes with that many zippers. . .
I promise you that hardly any other artist will be as well remembered, and NO RAP ARTISTS will be remembered at all!

Rape, pedophilia?
Sorry, pedophilia and rape are another thing.
The young man Michael was accused to be intimate with is 15 now and was 13 back then.
I’m not into infantilizing people to the point of not recognizing that there’s a huge difference between a 13 year old and a 5 year old. There are a lot of movies about boys of that age making love to women. They’re comedies, it is considered a cute first time and the boys are as happy as they could be. But what if the boy wants a man? Suddenly the boy is not anymore an active partecipant with agency but an innocent baby raped by a pedophile.
In my opinion people know well that boys that age mostly think about jerking off and doesn’t believe for a second they’re vulnerable puppies that might be harmed by sex. It’s just homophobia. Only that would explain the irrational reactions that are more about feeling good at attacking someone you think is bad rather than about protecting anyone. What angers me is that making a tragedy of petting with a 13 year old is disrespectful of real pedophilia victims like sodomized and beaten daily, mostly by a parent, three year old girls.
It’s like calling a pat on the bottom rape.
I have never talked with anyone who claim to had consensual sex with an adult when they were 5 year old and to remember it fondly. I have known and talked with dozen and dozen of people who claim to had their first sexual experience at age 12 or 14 with a much older person and to remember it with tenderness and to be still friends with that person or to be still a couple. It’s so natural that people are not afraid to talk about it or to write about it in books, blogs and interviews.
I think it’s a myth that Michael Jackson was stripped of his childhood because he was talented and famous.
What childhood? Silly stereotypes, retarded compulsive schooling and being forced to live in triviality and boredome? Who created the myth that children live better closed in a room playing with stupid pieces of plastic instead of putting their heart, effort and motivation into their passions and interests? Having a passion for singing and dancing and being able to express yourself on the stage for the world to see? What childhood could be better? Every person of whatever age needs to have something to live for, something to make waking up every morning worthy. Children too.
Have you noticed that now that young children are more emancipated and have more power due to tecnology, more of them at younger age, prefer to dedicate their days to some passion like singing, dancing, writing, cooking, training, programming, sports (and more) and to socializing a lot more with the world and people of every kind, instead of wasting their time fulfilling the stupid stereotype children have been forced to fulfill, regardless their desire to be humans immersed in a world of humans?
What I can say about Michael Jackson as a human being is that in spite of the fact that he was suffering from a disease that was making his skin white (it’s impossible to turn your skin from black to white using whatever surgical or chemical system and there are other black people who became white in the world) and made him intolerant to light, he witnessed personally every inauguration of every hospital he funded against the medical opinion of his doctors that advised him against travelling and exposing himself to the light and climate of those countries.
I’m also not sure what people mean when they say that Michael Jackson was like a child.
Because he was creative and playful? That’s not a characteristic of children, many children are not like that.
On the other hand every person, in my opinion, should strive to be like that at whatever age.
Adults need to be stern and uncreative? According to what law of nature?
Because he was sensitive and good at heart? Many children are not like that, I still remember well the 8 year old bastards who made my days at school unbereable with their bullying.
Or is someone claiming that Michael Jackson wasn’t good at taking care of himself and his life?
His career proves otherwise, he was extremely organized and responsible, which is how he managed all of his projects, mostly devoted to helping others, with such professionality. Such belief would also be extremely insulting to children, since children can not only be extremely good at taking care of themselves and their lives and extremely good at being organized, professional and responsible; but they can be way better than most adults in those areas too.

Did you guys know he converted to Islam before he died. Is true he even recorded one song ‘give thanks to Allah”

The (partial) conversion to Islam was of the Sufi variety; love and service, forbearance and gentle words. I suited him.
