Josh, I think this would be a fun and interesting sound track for this photo:
http://ilike.myspacecdn.com/play#Don+McLean:American+Pie:37485:s1372217.9634037.4631725.0.2.141%2Cstd_d7f52e8459054aa3b16877f00b3230c4
(This link is for those who just can’t handle having an image showing along with the music and it’s the correct long version originally played on the radio.)

Uhhhh….there are at least a thousand songs 30+yrs newer (than ‘American Pie’), that should play with his image. Let the music of his generation speak and define his teen angst. Or better yet, let his own music play with his image.;-)
You’re right, there’s lots of songs. This is only a suggestion. Since there is no music posted with this image, I just offered one. And who gives a fuck about which “generation” the music comes from? It is just one that I thought of off the top of my head.
I give a “fuck” and it just dates you that you would try to impose a song 40yrs old on a teen image today. Every generation if you haven’t noticed, has its own music that speaks for it…..even if its roots comes from a previous generation, it’s still uniquely theirs. “American Pie” would be elevator muzak to most teens today…..nails on a blackboard.;-)
Good music is just that …. no matter the “generation.” Why do you think that The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and others are still selling millions of CDs, mp3s, etc? And ALL of The Beatles’ music is BEFORE American Pie. For you to post those msgs, it just shows your pure ignorance of GOOD music, REGARDLESS of when it was first published. What you are saying is (for example), NONE of the CLASSICS (even dating back to the 18th Century) are worth listening to just because they weren’t published in the last 10-20 years in a “new style.” That’s just pure BULLSHIT. I’m sure MANY who come here [still] love the original Beatles songs and probably have many of their songs on their iPods, etc.
As usual, you’re missing the point. You’re trying to impose our old music on today’s generation. How many teens do you actually know? Do you really believe that anywhere near the majority of teens are listening to Beatles songs?? The Stones are a virtual parody onto themselves….a group that should have gracefully retired some 35 yrs ago and backed younger bands. They should be the poster boys for ego & money=shit.
Your “ignorance” is that you’re trying to argue with what you consider “good music/classics” and that nothing today can even come close. How sad for you. For example, rock musicians today have better instruments, are more competitive, start earlier and are better trained than any other generation. Just in the PNW alone, there are no less than 5,000 rock bands and they ain’t playin’ Beatles songs.
“Our’ music was virtually stolen from Black R&B, especially the two old mega groups you mentioned. Hardly original and/or unique, but it pushed buttons for the conservatives and religious zealots of the day.
The older stuff was great in its day, but pop & rock doesn’t retro back very well…it continually evolves. It’s just your pompous ass that thinks any generation after The Beatles should stand up and pay their respects.

I hate to tell you this, but my kids ages 10, 13 and 17 listen to the Beatles. One of those bands that play Beatles standards played recently in our town’s outdoor plaza and all our kids made sure to go. Lots of young people there. They also know American Pie (and my 13 year old played in her rock band) but it is not as popular to them as the Beatles. They know all the hits on the radio, but also think the older music was better. I tell them there was plenty of crap back then, it’s just everyone has (mercifully) forgotten it. None of this is my taste or opinion, just reporting on genuine kids in a Florida town, USA, in 2010.
@sjt: ……… Thank you very much. I was generalizing and you were more “specific” [with regards to your own kids] about the very same thing I was trying to say to this [in his words] “pompous ass”. All he had to do was just have the balls to say, “I don’t like that song or those pop groups [you] mentioned,” and I could show more respect to him. I watch enough TV to see that many of “my generation” pop songs are still very popular with today’s youth [in my opinion, thankfully].
Uhhh…this is one example of youth today following or liking the Beatles….I’m talking about the majority of what’s being played in those headphones from mp3 players you see walking around and what young adults are paying to see in the concert venues today.
And…I’ve never heard any youth today tell me that older music is better. I should say that I DJ dances for youth and I know what they want to hear, indifference to Penboy’s wild rants. But hey, your kids sound cool….tell them to rock on.

@Real1:
“As usual, you’re missing the point.” ….. NO, you are the one missing [all] the point[S!]
Point 1: Twice, you say I’m “imposing” this song on someone [you?]. Exactly where do you see me imposing this song on anyone? My 1st post says, “fun and interesting,” not saying you must click on and listen to it. 2nd post, “only a suggestion,” “I just offered one,” and “one that I thought of off the top of my head.” Respectfully, it is you who is imposing your intense dislike for either that song, those 2 groups or just me, personally (it’s never really clear which). I never said anyone here must click on that link and listen to that song. And as you state, “… should play with his image … let his own music play with his image.” Interesting, none of your replies offer up a different [better?] song to listen to. Also, unless all of us are missing something, there is no music posted here to play along with his image. And you said, ““American Pie” would be elevator muzak to most teens today…..nails on a blackboard.” — That may be your opinion and your elevator or nails/blackboard (and you could have said so) but I’m sure to the majority of those visiting here (not necessarily the ones posting), that song/artist is no “nails on a blackboard” or in their elevator.
Point 2: I’m really surprised at how truly ignorant you are to [any] “generational” and cultural/pop music. 1st, saying that both of those groups’ (and other very popular artists) music was “virtually stolen from Black R&B” is pure stupidity. While both groups did sing some songs of those before them, the songs that those groups actually wrote were definitely not stolen. Did they use the “styles/methods” similar to “black R&B” music? Sure, as did many others — that’s why they call that style of music R&B (as a group) — just like any other style. And at that time, they and others were definitely original and/or unique. As for “push[ing] buttons for the conservatives and religious zealots” — well, anything remotely “jesus” and “gaining complete control” are their buttons regardless of the decade/generation/century.
It’s amazing just how much you will “kow-tow” to any younger generation “mis-fits” just because you find some of the younger set attractive/cute. Hey, I like their looks too (as do most of the visitors to Josh’s blog), but I can and will recognize the superiority of “our generation” as I see fit (not always, to be sure). And I most certainly differ to you when you state that “today’s rock musicians” … “are better trained than any other generation.” With regard to electronics, quite possibly, but regarding quality and style, highly doubtful (in my opinion). The only thing you said that is even remotely accurate is: “pop & rock … continually evolves” [the middle part is pure bullshit.

What the fuck is wrong with you two? For all you know this kid could only like Beethoven and is just posing with a guitar.
Tl,dr; Shut up, your argument is nonsensical.
God, you’re an idiot…they almost word for word stole songs from Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bo Didley. They have admitted to it time and time again in interviews. Just because you change the beat and rearrange and add/subtract to the lyrics, doesn’t mean you didn’t steal them in the first place. They were also reluctant to credit the artists they stole from, which furthered their crimes.
As usual Penboy, your ‘point’ arguments are excessive and definitely not the ‘last word’ as you often fantasize.

You should read this article. While tragic (losing a talented young teen), it also shows you don’t know what you’re talking about regarding young teens choice of music today. Be sure to notice what this 13 y.o.’s choice of music is as his favorites (from 2 different generations — considerably earlier to this generation’s crappy music).
Just because you see and hear a few teens grinding to some idiotic rap and other noisy crap, that doesn’t speak for probably the vast majority of teens who have serious choices of good music.

After being a real fan of your comments I’m not sure what to say about this post. My guess is you are a really cute kid. Just a guess.

Don’t leave us with half the story, Cory. How did the set go and did you get a big offer backstage?
Haha, more like a backyard, in the garage concert for some school friends and a few neighborhood girls (it was all about the girls for the other boys, and I just played along). And there was no funny business, just cute, spontaneous “let’s get naked!” boyish fun. I live in a small town with lots of families, and in the summer, we get bored, and crazy stuff like this just tends to happen. Difference is, that crazy stuff is a lot more innocent when you’re 12.

There was a kid named David Sposito in a punk/rock band called DV8 about 6-7 years ago that had a picture just like that.
If I knew how to upload it I would.
