He-he… the old Egyptian, Greek, Roman societies were quite tolerate in this aspect. An old Roman moralist complained that a cute boy costs more than a whole farm. According to Suetonius’ De Vita Caesarum at least nine of first twelve Roman emperors were gay or at least bi. Starting from Caesar himself who was known as “a husband of all wives and a wife of all husbands.”
On the other hand it wasn’t all fun and joy. It was a paradise for child abusers. You could buy kid slaves ( who were, especially after great Imperial wars, in abundance and very cheap) and do to them whatever you wanted.

Aside from the Hebrews and the Germanic barbarian tribes, most ancient Mediterranean peoples were simply “sexual.” Males & females were expected to marry and reproduce, but male prostitution and the exploitation of handsome male slaves was common. Kinda like today’s cultures really – publicly heterosexual – when unobserved, anything goes.

Who’s to say it wasn’t the same with Germanic barbarians or Hebrews? With the Hebrews, just because their religion may have forbade it doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have done it. They just would’ve hidden it more.With Germanic barbarians, I don’t think enough is known to make that determination. People are people,and the hebrews (or germanic barbarians) were no different from the mediterraneans. If there’s a difference, it’s only that the mediterraneans didn’t hide their practices whereas the others did.
