That is NOT the same Noah Hatheway. The one who played Atreyu would be 40 today. The one in those recent pics is a model.

Aw, thanks.

i remember watching this a lot when i was a kid (back in 90′s lol). And because i forgot what is was about i’ve now read the summary from Wikipedia – i have to admit i remember very little – or better still – i don’t think i ever understood the whole thing, maybe because at that time i was learning english from cartoon network :). I Just remember i watched i many many times – together with The Land Before Time and Asterix u. Obelix :)

Neverending Story — That was a very interesting movie, and not the least, Noah Hathaway. :-) But, I wish you would have credited Giorgio Moroder for that music ** — it’s (he! is) very, very good.
Noah Hathaway must have had the most “protected chest” in movie making history — throughout that entire movie where his shirt was open constantly, I believe there was only one extremely brief scene where only 1 nipple was visible. It’s as if the people from Disney were making this movie as well.
** There’s a remarkable semblance of this theme song with the music in Electric Dreams (also 1984!) ….. wait ….. it’s by him too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXr1msthXh8

He looks like this now: http://www.noah-hathaway.com/
However, I met him at a comic book convention and got his autograph. He is a very nice guy.

Wow…I’m always amazed at how you dudes find the most obscure stuff. I never would have believed there were so many promotional pics of Noah still floating around.

@ Shinigami – That is NOT Noah’s body – those are Photoshopped.
How would you know? Did you hear it from your ‘god?’
I don’t believe they are ‘shopped — I’ve seen those photos for years now …… before it became “kewl” to say everything is ‘shopped when you really have no idea.
All but that one photo of Noah really pumped up is real in my opinion. I’ve seen all but that “pumped” photo around for years, and they all show the same body, and look correct. That “pumped” body does not match with the head.
they’re all real. i have just about every magazine he was in back in the 1980s and i can personally guarantee several of the “nike” pictures taken on that day where he’s wearing the EXACT same clothing were published back in the 1980s in ‘tiger beat’, ’16 magazine’, etc, and were credited to Bob Villard (google the name and it will explain a lot).. same with the “dance” photo which you seem to think is so unbelievably “pumped up” – I don’t have that exact photo, but i have german magazines which were published back in the 1980s and show other pictures taken on that same day at his dance class where he’s wearing that EXACT same outfit.. i agree some of the pictures noah posed for back in the day are extremely provocative, but people who know nothing about photoshop constantly claiming everything is “shopped” is really getting tiresome…

That is most certainly Noah. As stated by others, the set has been around for a long time.

Dewboy you’re sooooo wrong.
According to director Wolfgang Peterson he “sought a good-looking boy of athletic build” Noah was already an athlete and accomplished martial artist when he was cast as Atreyu. He was only 12-13 when Neverending Story came out.
Check out the movie Troll which came out when he was 14-15 where you get a glimpse of his upper body and a brief view of those furry pits. He was a real jock and into racing motorcycles by then. He’s listed as 5’8″ now so he was probably about 5’5″ when he made Troll.

Oh My, I was only a teenager when I saw this film, it was one of the first movies to make me cry. It still does everytime I see it, two weeks ago it was shown on ITV2 or 3 I think. I used to dream of climbing onto Falcor (The luck Dragons) back and flying away to a distant land………I still do somtimes. Such memories.

Great memories! I’ve always loved this film and I do remember fancying Noah Hathaway, with his long flowing hair and open shirt! The brief clips were fun to watch (though too brief to provoke any tears). It must have been one of the last films to feature animatronics so heavily, before CGI started to develop. I remembered the group Kajagoogoo too, but not the singer Limahl – what a mullet! (80′s hairstyle gone mad!) Thanks, Josh.

I loved this movie, partly because one of my neighbor’s had an little boy that very much looked and acted like the baby rock-biter. I read the book, and found the movie’s rendition of Falcor, however, failed to meet the image I’d formed in my imagination; I felt it looked too much like some sort of a flying mutt.
Of the two boy stars in “Neverending Story”, I was most attracted to Barret Oliver, who resembled a cherished cousin, but I liked Noah as well. Now, Barret is some hirsute, scientology clam, and a well-respected photographer, while Noah seems to have kept himself in fighting form. I even hear rumors from my entertainment budz that he’s working on making an acting comeback. That would be very nice indeed.

Great film recently re-released on DVD. I thought both Noah and Barrett were very good looking boys as a kid and I loved this film. I still prefer the book though. The film barely covers half of it. I heard Wolfgang Peterson was a very tough director though and Noah busted an arm in the filming. He runs a bike shop now and looks like a metal star: bulked and covered in tattoos.

The NeverEnding Story is one of my favorite movies. And Atreju (Noah Hathaway) was my very first boy crush. I was not yet thirteen when that movie came out and he certainly caught my attention. :) He was also adorable in the movie Troll, where he played a character named Harry Potter (no joke).
One quick note about the book: I read it for the first time a few years ago. It’s good, but you get to a point where you actually think it may never end.

The NeverEnding Story
Kudos to someone who actually got the title correct. That’s how you can always discern who’s a die-hard fan of this film

Many years ago, when Noah was playing “Boxy”, I saw him having dinner in the best Pizzaria in Beverly Hills. I had gone there to pick-up my pizza, and spied him in a corner. He was very cute as Boxy, and even better looking as Atreyu in The Neverending Story. He was also quite handsome as a young teen, too bad he didn’t get to make any more movies back then.

Love this movie!

Oh yes, so glad you posted this!
I had a big poster on my wall with Limahl, had a real crush on him then. Later on Kajagoogoo splitt up, I believe because of the coming out of Limahl?

LMAO sat here watching this at 1am and thinking wtf is going on! couldnt help but laugh my way through the whole thing, heartless monster: guilty as charged.

When I read “if you don’t start crying” I knew exactly what scene it was going to be. That is somehow one of the saddest scenes in any movie I have seen. I don’t often cry when watching a movie, but that is one scene where I did!
I didn’t see the movie when I was a kid, though other people my age did. I came across a clip of him and then watched the movie online when I was 14.
…and then looked up all the pics of him in his teen years I could find.

I also had a crush on young Noah, as a teenager he was the personification of an all american boy who’s into any kind of sport. Always wearing really tight and tiny shorts and T-Shirts, man what a butt he had! =P
I think Barret Oliver’s best movie was D.A.R.Y.L, I did cry when I thought he was dead =(

ok i’m heartless it didn’t make me cry. love the never ending movies.

If Noah was my first 80s crush (i’m a child of the 80s: 34 years young); Ilan Michell-Smith in Weird Science was just as sexy and made the same sort of impact, especially in that scene of him in girl’s underwear. Yes I was a dirty little sod even then :)

I knew exactly what was comming up at 2:49, i have the movie and i still cry everytime i see Artex sink into the mud. It’s a pitty the 2 sequals were not as good as this one. i remember seeing this at the movies way back when ahhh memories :)

Anyone here who read the book before watching the film and thought the only interesting part about it was atreyu? In my opinion the film is a disgrace to the book and what the book is about. also it messes up the story pretty badly.

@Sinal
Limahl is still going strong and doesn’t look too bad for a guy pushing 50.

Oh, no! The big hair, the synthetically sweet pop music, some things just need to end. :)

This is still my all-time favorite movie. As for crying, I always do, and with each viewing, I start sooner in anticipation, and continue after. It is really very touching. I only recently heard that not only is Noah Hathaway gay, but he was supposedly very sexually active with both the cast and crew while this movie was being filmed. The sequels suck – in the bad sense.
This seems unlikely on the face of it. While I understand that being married with children is not absolute proof that he is straight, he’s got nothing to prove to me in that regard. The additional bit about being “sexually active with cast and crew” smacks more of fan-fiction than actual fact.

FYI markaland, Nifty.org is not a reliable news source. I’d recommend using a search engine like Google.
I thought Kenny Morrison, who played Atreyu in the sequel, was pretty sweet looking in his own way. Too bad, so sad about Jonathan Brandis
about 1 year ago
@markaland
First I have heard of it and i’m sure a Hollywood studio would allow a 13 year old kid to carry on with the crew even if he was: those kids have 24 hr chaperones. Sure it’s not wishful thinking mate? :)

Are you sure you meant EXACTLY what you stated in the above post? Read again. No “lawyer” would have written that.

Cheesy special effects and music….but somehow the movie carried itself into the hearts of young & old alike. It’s true about losing the horse in the swamp…even though it’s obvious over-acting, it still works. And yes, there was like one shot that showed very briefly, the boy’s nip. I’m sure that was an editing mistake that got through, because in all the other scenes, he’s very well protected. I find that curious, because in the 80′s we often wore shorts and jeans that showed everything with even minimal imagination. And we always had our shirts off….now, all boys need to cover up unless the ‘stranger danger’ gets to them in their sleep. Or, you say ‘stranger danger’ three times while looking into a mirror….

As a child of the 80′s I have seen Neverending Story so many times, I couldn’t fathom a guess on a number. Noah Hathaway was such a beauty. Bastian was pretty damn cute himself. I was sad that the Atreyu in the sequel wasn’t nearly as yummy as Noah But Jonathan Brandis as Bastian was wonderful… Gawd I had suc a huge crush on him in the 90′s
